Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking a Controls Software Engineer to design, develop, and test software systems for advanced control of large-scale experimental facilities. You will work primarily with EPICS and related tools to ensure reliable operation of data acquisition and control networks for the ALS.

As a key member of the Engineering division, you will lead software development efforts, maintain system architectures, and collaborate with scientists and engineers to deliver

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master's degree; or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy control system software using EPICS.
  • Act as technical lead for ASCC application in the ALS control room.
  • Define and maintain system architecture for scalability, reliability, maintainability, and security.
  • Design and deploy interfaces and workflow tools.
  • Design, deploy, and maintain SQL databases.
  • Provide debugging, troubleshooting, and triage for issues.
  • Develop GUIs and loggers using EPICS tools.
  • Assist with commissioning of controls with domain scientists.
