Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Safety Engineer to lead system safety activities for a family of Unmanned Systems supporting defense and commercial applications.

In this role, you will lead system safety analyses, collaborate with engineering, and drive safety process improvements across the organization. You will mentor junior engineers, develop safety deliverables (SSMP, SAR, hazard logs), and present findings at reviews with customers and program stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field (Systems Engineering, Electrical, Aerospace, etc.).
• 8+ years of safety/weapon system safety experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 15% for meetings and reviews.
• Experience applying MIL-STD-882E in defense/aerospace environments.
• Strong capability in developing and maintaining safety documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead system safety analyses and documentation (PHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA).
• Derive and allocate safety requirements across subsystems and interfaces.
• Develop and maintain safety documents (SSMP/SSPP, SAR, Hazard Logs, HMMP).
• Mentor junior engineers and improve safety processes/tools.
• Represent safety in reviews with customers and program stakeholders.
• Coordinate with government and customer safety organizations.
