Job summary

System One, Inc. is seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer in Tulsa, OK. This remote-offsite, direct-hire role focuses on identifying and reducing electrical, mechanical, and environmental risks in inline inspection tools and related equipment.

You will lead safety-related design reviews, support test planning, review results, and communicate risks and residual risk to management. Independent judgment and strong engineering principles are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering, product safety, or related fields.
• Experience applying structured safety methods to complex engineered products, systems, or equipment.
• Knowledge of hazard analysis, risk reduction, safety verification, and residual-risk communication.
• Understanding of functional safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 62061.
• Familiarity with hazardous-location, explosive-atmosphere, or ignition-risk concepts for electrical/electronic equipment.
• Strong knowledge of DC power distribution, batteries, protection circuits, fault currents, and thermal effects.
• Ability to review schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, test data, and safety documentation.
• Effective communication with technical and management audiences.

Responsibilities

• Identify and reduce electrical, mechanical, and environmental risks in in-line inspection tools and associated equipment.
• Perform safety-related design reviews, make design recommendations, support test planning, and review test results.
• Communicate system risk, unresolved assumptions, and residual risk to management.
• Establish and maintain formal safety evaluation processes for tool design.
• Facilitate hazard analyses such as FMEA, fault-tree analysis, and related safety activities.
• Define and document credible threats, including justifications for excluding severe consequences.
• Review mechanical, electrical, and control system designs to ensure safety goals are met.
• Work with design and test teams to incorporate and verify safety recommendations.
• Manage and review safety-related supplier or contractor work.
• Report safety-case status, gaps, mitigation options, and residual risk to stakeholders.
