Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior System Design Engineer to define and lead system design and technical specifications for autonomous driving technologies. You will work at the intersection of system, architecture, hardware and software, contributing from early concept through validation for next-gen GM vehicles.

The role includes leading technical solutions, designing interfaces, and driving documentation using industry tools. Hybrid work schedule and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in automotive or similar electronic modules and/or systems engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements and interfaces.
• Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA etc.
• High level of oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with colleagues local and at remote sites.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and has a passion to shape the future.
• Strong technical leadership skills and an ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
• Creative, disciplined, strong sense of responsibility, delivery and schedule commitment.

Responsibilities

• Leads and generates technical solutions including specifying of requirements, functional decomposition, analysis, development and testing for current, new and major programs.
• Designs interfaces and requirements, including detailed design development and validation using Protobufs and Feature Files.
• Lead development of software system team design content and software anomaly corrections.
• Performs complex design analysis.
• Specifies and balances system requirements.
• Provide, communicate, and support common best practices among software community.
• Performs as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for at least one platform or application component.
• Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/solution specifications with tools such as DNG, Rhapsody, Jira, Jama, GitHub, Confluence and Visual Studio.
• Lead FMEA and the allocation of identified failure modes to execution teams.
• Apply solid technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to solving problems in both familiar and unfamiliar domains.
• Participate with cross functional development team (System, SW) discussions to ensure alignment with peers and downstream customers in the product execution side of the business.
