Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join the AV team to contribute to defining how autonomous sensing systems are architected and integrated across GM’s autonomy programs.

This role focuses on system‑level decisions at the intersection of sensors, embedded software, vehicle platforms, and autonomy software, ensuring sensing solutions are technically sound, aligned with product intent, and executable in production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; equivalent experience accepted.
• Experience in system architecture, integration, and cross-domain initiatives.
• Experience with sensing systems (camera, radar, lidar) and integration.
• 5+ years in sensor-intensive systems engineering or autonomy.
• Proficient in requirements development, interfaces, integration, and validation.
• Technical depth in signal processing, link analysis, or ML for sensing.
• Understanding of self-driving challenges and sensor needs.
• Ability to collaborate across teams on complex problems.
• Experience with Matlab or Python for data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform system-level trade studies for multi-modality sensor designs.
• Develop detailed performance specs for sensors based on physics.
• Assess performance against product needs and drive improvements.
• Collaborate with simulation, vehicle integration, perception, and validation teams.
• Document technical decisions, trade-offs, and deliverables.
