Description

This position is located in Evanston, Illinois. The Senior Swim Instructor contributes to creating a warm and welcoming environment for a diverse community of swimmers. Responsibilities include teaching swim lessons, assisting with the operations of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore Learn-to-Swim program, lifeguarding, and supporting early swim team levels of the Flying Fish.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

1. Swim Instruction (65%)
   • Teach swim lessons for all ages and levels.
   • Assist in instructing community groups for swim lessons.
   • Monitor and evaluate classes and swimmers when not teaching.
   • Provide lifeguard coverage during non-instructional times.
2. Lifeguarding (20%)
   • Ensure the safety of patrons by monitoring swimmer safety and responding to emergencies during swim lessons, open, and lap swimming.
3. Coaching (10%)
   • Assist with entry-level swim team practice.
4. Additional Duties (5%)
   • Attend staff training and participate in agency committees.
   • Pursue professional development.
   • Adhere to all YWCA policies and procedures, including safety protocols.
   • Support other instructors and lifeguards as needed.
   • Perform maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Some high school education.
• At least 2 years of experience developing swimming skills for all levels.
• Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR certification.
• Intermediate proficiency with swim equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 4 years of experience developing swim skills.
• At least one year of lifeguarding experience.
• At least one year of coaching entry-level competitive swimming.
• Bilingual in Spanish.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical and Mental Demands

Must tolerate prolonged water exposure, stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, push, pull, lift up to 10 pounds, and operate equipment. Ability to perform essential functions with reasonable accommodations.

Working Environment

• Shared workspace and occasional work in different buildings.

Note: Compensation is based on qualifications, with a pay range of $16.20 - $18.08/hour.
