Job summary

SmithGroup in San Francisco seeks a Senior Sustainability Analyst to lead the IMPACT group of sustainability and climate professionals. You will oversee certification narratives, performance models, and climate risk assessments, while guiding design integration and strategic planning across complex projects.

You will mentor staff, develop standards to improve service delivery, and represent the firm in client meetings and industry events.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering, environmental sciences, economics, architecture or related technical field.
  • Professional licensure and sustainability credentials such as LEED AP, WELL AP, LFA, or Fitwel Ambassador.
  • 10+ years in sustainability within design and construction of built environment; at least 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Experience with climate adaptation, performance modeling, or related topics is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple sustainability certifications and ESG documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing sustainability and climate team within the IMPACT group, including specialists in performance modeling and certification.
  • Oversee quality of sustainability narratives, documentation, models, and climate risk assessments.
  • Guide strategic planning and design integration across complex projects with a cohesive sustainability vision.
  • Supervise development of technical specs, design narratives, and client-facing materials.
  • Facilitate charrettes and workshops with clients and project teams.
  • Manage IMPACT team staffing, scope, and fee negotiations with project managers.
  • Mentor junior staff and support professional development plans.
  • Develop tools and standards to improve modeling efficiency and service delivery.
  • Represent IMPACT in client meetings, conferences and events; drive industry relationships.
  • Lead proposal development and strategic business development for IMPACT services.
  • Contribute to national organizations and thought leadership in sustainability.
