Job summary

SmithGroup is seeking a Senior Sustainability Analyst to lead the IMPACT group in San Francisco, supervising a team of sustainability and climate professionals. The role focuses on performance modeling, certification, climate risk, and decarbonization planning across healthcare, science, technology, and more.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Economics, Architecture or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Professional licensure and sustainability credentials such as LEED AP, WELL AP, LFA, or Fitwel Ambassador.
• 10+ years of sustainability experience in design and construction of built environment; 2+ years direct supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing sustainability team within the IMPACT group.
• Oversee certification documentation, performance models, and climate risk assessments.
• Guide strategic planning and design integration across complex projects.
• Supervise technical specifications and client-facing materials for certification goals.
• Facilitate charrettes/workshops with clients and project teams.
• Manage IMPACT team staffing, scope, and fee negotiations with project managers.
• Mentor junior staff and support professional development plans.
• Develop tools and standards to improve modeling efficiency.
• Represent IMPACT in client meetings, conferences and industry events.
• Lead proposals and business development with marketing and sector leaders.
• Act as a sustainability thought leader and contribute to national organizations.
