Job summary

SmithGroup, an integrated design firm, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer for its San Francisco office. The role leads HVAC design, energy modeling, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to deliver resilient, sustainable spaces.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in mechanical engineering, PE license, and Revit proficiency, with a focus on energy performance and team mentorship. Hybrid work, strong benefits, and salary range will be discussed during hiring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering designing HVAC and energy modeling.
• LEED AP preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
• Ability to lead and mentor others in area of expertise.
• Experience in improving project energy performance.
• Knowledge of design and construction processes and cross-disciplinary communication.
• Proficiency with Revit and MS Office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead and act as the engineering leader through project stages and marketing of the studio.
• Promote energy efficiency, sustainability, and resilience in projects.
• Establish goals, budgets and schedules, track performance, enforce quality control.
• Meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors and others to resolve issues.
• Present engineering designs to clients and design review committees.
• Serve as a mechanical systems specialist and devise solutions for complex problems.
• Contribute to energy calculations and decarbonization performance using specialized tools.
• Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching and recruitment.
