Job summary

SmithGroup in Sacramento is seeking a Senior Sustainability Analyst to lead the IMPACT team. You will oversee certification work, climate risk assessments, and design integration across complex projects, mentoring staff and guiding strategic planning.

The role entails developing client materials, leading workshops, and driving proposals while representing the firm at national sustainability events. A strong background in LEED/WELL and related credentials is required.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or related field; MS preferred.
• Licensure and sustainability credentials such as LEED AP, WELL AP, LFA, or Fitwel Ambassador.
• 10+ years in sustainability within design/construction; 2+ years supervisory experience.
• Experience integrating green building strategies across markets and scales.
• Experience managing multiple sustainability certifications and ESG documentation.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills; ability to develop teams.
• Experience in strategic planning, project management and client engagement.
• Excellent presentation and facilitation; able to lead workshops and charrettes.
• Active involvement in industry organizations; national leadership preferred.
• Collaborative mindset to influence disciplines toward ambitious goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead a high-performing sustainability team within the IMPACT group.
• Oversee certification docs, performance models, and climate risk assessments.
• Guide planning and design integration for complex projects.
• Supervise technical specifications, design narratives, and client materials.
• Facilitate charrettes and client workshops; guide decision-making sessions.
• Manage IMPACT team staffing, scope, and fee negotiations with PMs.
• Mentor junior staff and support professional development plans.
• Develop tools and standards to improve modeling efficiency and service delivery.
• Represent IMPACT in meetings, conferences, and industry events.
• Lead proposals and strategic business development with marketing and sector leads.
• Contribute to national organizations and drive innovation in wellness, equity, resilience.
• Oversee internal education programs and staff training.
• Travel to client sites and conferences as needed.
