Job description

We are looking for a Senior Surveyor / Planner to join our team on a full-time, direct basis while based at our office in the Cape May Court House, NJ area. This is a hands-on leadership role to oversee surveying & planning operations related to land use development, municipal land use planning, tax map preparation & maintenance, master plan updates, and site planning projects for clients in Southern NJ.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide management & administrative support services for a variety of surveying (e.g.: boundary, title, ALTA, topographic, aerial, etc.) as well as related operations: utility locations (including pipe inverts & sizes), utility surveys, wetland location surveys, construction layout, and Right-of-Way (R/W) surveys.
  • Review, approve, and seal technical documents (including calculations & drawings).
  • Perform Quality Assurance / Quality Control [QA/QC] review of all survey documents (including survey plans, record plots, legal descriptions, and construction layout services).
  • Perform project site visits and/or periodic field observation, as required.
  • Attend / participate in municipal hearings as well as all necessary client meetings.
  • Interact / communicate positively with the public, elected officials, clients, Contractors, and team members in a timely & professional manner.
  • Lead subdivision and site plan projects: direct Engineers & Environmentalists (and/or others) with regard to deadlines & deliverables; attend necessary Board meetings, etc.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Communicate job progress to local Management, especially in relation to any potential issues with timelines and/or budgets.
  • Provide guidance to all internal departments regarding survey-related project barriers.
  • Cultivate relationships with new and existing clients to provide services for site design.
  • Proposal preparation (including project approach, scope of services, and fees).
  • Participate in business development/networking activities (when appropriate) and assist with the preparation of related marketing materials.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, as needed.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This is largely an office-oriented role requiring frequent and prolonged computer use. This position requires occasional travel to-and-from project sites / meetings, and may require overtime, evening and/or weekend work (depending on project needs). Since there is some field travel involved, in an outdoor working environment, exposure to extreme weather conditions may occur.

Basic Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience working in Field / Land Surveying.
  • Valid Professional Land Surveyor’s [PLS] license in NJ.
  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (or Bachelor’s degree) in Surveying Technology (or a related technical field of study) is a plus!
  • NJ Professional Planning [PP] license is strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise with modern Survey methods, best practices, and technologies.
  • Proficiency with relevant technologies / tools (e.g.: CADD, Total Stations, HDLS, GIS, etc.); experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, RTS (Robotic Total Stations), GPS, and Leica Geosystems HW & SW is preferred.
  • Proficiency on all standard Microsoft Office software applications, especially with MS-Excel.
  • Proven leadership skills; Management and/or Project Management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage projects effectively, multitask, and prioritize workflow to satisfy multiple project schedules, deadlines, and budgets simultaneously.
  • Exceptional client and contractor relationship management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills, especially in conjunction with being responsive to the needs of clients.
