Job summary

Seagate Technology seeks a senior process scientist to advance surface science for recording head fabrication. You will develop and optimize ALE/ALD processes, evaluate thin films, and lead cross-functional efforts to transfer capabilities into manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Surface Science, Physics or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in surface/film processing; advanced degrees may adjust experience requirements.
• Hands-on experience with ALD/ALE/IBD/IBE and related thin-film processes is preferred.
• Experience with DOE, statistics, and data-driven process optimization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize surface cleaning, conditioning, and ALE processes to improve topography.
• Investigate ultra-thin-film coatings and interfaces focusing on adhesion and stability.
• Design experiments using DOE and data analytics to map interactions of chemistry and process conditions.
• Support integration of ALD, ALE, IBD, IBE with emphasis on precursor-surface interactions.
• Use XPS, XRF, AFM and related metrology to evaluate chemistry and morphology.
• Lead cross-functional process integration and transfer to production environments.
• Perform root-cause investigations of yield and contamination issues using structured methods.
• Collaborate with vendors for process development, troubleshooting, and qualification.
