Job Description:

Saab, Inc. is seeking a dynamic Senior Supplier Quality Engineer responsible for overseeing and managing the quality of products and services from external suppliers. This role involves conducting supplier assessments, identifying quality issues, driving improvement plans, and collaborating with suppliers to achieve optimal quality performance. The position requires extensive travel to supplier locations for on-site audits and evaluations.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in quality engineering practices, data analysis, and possess strong communication skills to effectively influence and guide suppliers toward continuous improvement.

This is a remote position with up to 75% travel, depending on location. Candidates should reside within reasonable distance of a major airport.

Key Responsibilities include:

1. Supplier selection and evaluation: Assess potential suppliers’ capabilities through technical reviews, quality system audits, and site visits to ensure they meet quality requirements.
2. Supplier performance monitoring: Track quality metrics like defect rates, delivery performance, and compliance to identify improvement areas and hold suppliers accountable.
3. Quality improvement initiatives: Develop and implement corrective action plans, including root cause analysis and preventative measures.
4. Supplier development: Provide technical guidance and training to enhance manufacturing processes and quality systems.
5. New product introduction: Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure new components meet design and quality specifications.
6. Incoming inspection oversight: Review and approve inspection procedures and ensure proper quality checks.
7. Non-conformance management: Investigate issues, initiate corrective actions, and manage SCARs.
8. Data analysis and reporting: Use statistical tools to analyze quality data, identify trends, and generate performance reports.
9. Compliance management: Ensure adherence to relevant standards and regulations.
10. Mentorship and leadership: Guide and coach junior engineers in supplier quality practices.

Compensation Range: $90,000 - $112,500. Compensation is a guideline and considers various factors including experience and location.

Skills and Experience:

• Strong understanding of quality engineering principles and methodologies.
• Experience with supplier quality management systems and audits.
• Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with suppliers.
• Willingness and ability to travel for on-site assessments.
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
• Engineering degree (mechanical, electrical, or related) preferred.
• Proven experience in a supplier quality engineering role with a track record of improvements.
