Job summary

City of Detroit, Office of the Chief Financial Officer - Treasury Division, seeks a Supervisory Accountant III to lead accounting teams and oversee GAAP-compliant financial activities across multiple offices.

The incumbent will manage preparation of financial reports, CAFR coordination, payroll and grant accounting, and ensure ERP Cloud module integrity while guiding staff to deliver accurate, timely information for public sector accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major in business, public administration, finance, engineering, purchasing or related field.
• At least four (4) years of accounting experience.
• Two (2) years of supervising subordinate staff and at least one (1) year supervising mid to senior level professionals.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise accounting professionals and paraprofessionals across OCFO offices.
• Oversee GAAP compliance, general ledger close, and financial reporting.
• Prepare and present key financial information, CAFR coordination, and grant accounting support.
• Ensure data accuracy in ERP Cloud modules and related reporting templates.
• Provide financial support to city departments and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
