Senior Superintendent – Multifamily Construction (South San Francisco)

About the Role

Our client, a general contractor with an active multifamily construction portfolio across the Peninsula and greater Bay Area, is seeking a Senior Superintendent with hands-on multifamily experience to lead field operations on ground-up apartment, condominium, and mixed-use residential projects.

The ideal candidate has run multifamily projects from foundations through unit turnover — managing podium/wood-frame construction, phased building delivery, and the tight coordination between structural, MEP, and finish trades that multifamily schedules demand.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all field operations for multifamily construction projects, from mobilization through unit turnover and closeout.
• Manage construction sequencing across podium and wood-frame (Type III/V) building types, including phased floor-by-floor or building-by-building delivery.
• Coordinate subcontractors, schedules, quality control, and jobsite safety across concurrent buildings or phases.
• Lead daily coordination meetings and maintain a proactive look-ahead schedule to hit unit turnover and certificate of occupancy milestones.
• Manage inspections and coordinate with local building/fire departments through framing, rough-in, and final inspections.
• Partner with the Project Executive/PM on budget tracking, change orders, and owner/developer communication.
• Maintain strong relationships with developers, architects, and multifamily-experienced subcontractors.
• Mentor assistant superintendents and field engineers.
• Uphold rigorous safety and quality standards across a fast-paced, multi-building jobsite.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of construction superintendent experience, with a strong focus on multifamily/residential construction (ground-up apartments, condos, or mixed-use residential).
• Experience with podium and wood-frame (Type III/V) construction methods.
• Established relationships with Bay Area/Peninsula developers and multifamily-focused subcontractors a strong plus.
• Working knowledge of local building and fire department inspection processes.
• Strong scheduling skills — comfortable managing phased, multi-building construction sequencing.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to manage large field teams and multiple subcontractor crews.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• High school diploma required; trade school or construction management coursework a plus.
