Job summary

Halff Associates, Inc. in Houston, TX is seeking a SUE Field Technician III with at least five years of Subsurface Utility Engineering experience to support infrastructure projects.

The role emphasizes locating, identifying, and documenting subsurface utilities using advanced detection technologies and coordinating field operations. You will lead a small crew, interpret plans, and produce accurate field data while upholding safety and quality standards on diverse sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Postsecondary education preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of SUE utility locating and designating experience.
• Strong understanding of SUE principles and geophysical methods.
• Proficiency with GPR, electromagnetic locating equipment and vacuum excavation systems.
• Familiarity with APWA color codes and ASCE 38-22 standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and calibrate utility locating equipment (GPR, locators, vacuum equipment).
• Conduct utility locating and designation investigations to identify and mark utilities.
• Lead a two-person utility designating crew and/or vacuum excavation crew.
• Read and interpret utility plans, drawings, maps, and records.
• Prepare field sketches, maps, reports detailing utilities’ location, depth, and type.
