Job summary

NV Energy is seeking a senior civil/structural engineer to lead substation and transmission design efforts in Nevada, including site development, foundations and control enclosures.

You will perform route analyses, conduct structural calculations, coordinate with stakeholders, mentor staff, and provide cost estimates and scheduling input for budgeting. Travel up to 25% may be required; PE licensure in progress or Nevada licensure within nine months is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited school with 15 years of industry experience.
• Must be a licensed PE or able to obtain Nevada licensure within nine months of hire.
• Experience in civil, structural and/or transmission engineering design for utility settings.
• Experience with 345kV/500kV substation/site development and line design up to 345/500kV.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop substation civil plans for sitework including grading, drainage, fencing and landscaping.
• Perform transmission line design analyses, route selection and sag calculations.
• Obtain construction approvals and permits from authorities.
• Develop economical, reliable designs with minimal supervision.
• Mentor staff and provide peer design reviews.
• Scope, route and site projects; evaluate best value options.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for project success.
• Provide cost estimates and schedule input for budgeting.
• Contribute to standards and specifications improvements.
