Job summary

CORE Electric Cooperative is seeking a skilled Substation Protection and Control Technician to lead programming, testing, and commissioning activities for protection systems and related equipment. The role requires educating staff and interpreting complex electrical diagrams to ensure safe, compliant operation.

Responsibilities include relay testing, switching, and maintenance of high-voltage components, as well as on-site inspections, documentation, and coordination with the Substation Working

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Substation Technical Apprenticeship or vocational degree is required.
• Six or more years of experience, or equivalent experience/education.
• Minimum three years relay testing experience.
• A valid Colorado driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
• Competent with position-specific software and applications.
• Competent with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Program, test, and commission protection and control systems following the latest standards.
• Educate Substation staff on protection and control programming, testing, and commissioning.
• Interpret electrical prints (one-line, three-line, schematic) for testing and troubleshooting.
• Inform Substation Working Foreman of daily progress and issues.
• Conduct Job Briefings on site and communicate changes in scope or method.
• Perform vehicle pre-trip inspections and report issues.
• Assist in training Substation Technician I (Apprentice).
• Test, maintain, and commission substation equipment including breakers, transformers, regulators, and switchgear.
