Job summary

WSP seeks a Sr. Substation Protection & Control Engineer to join our East Energy team. This role will lead protection design for capital projects, review relay settings, and coordinate automation integration across multiple offices in NY, MA, ME.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in power systems protection, EIT certification, and IEC 61850/GOOSE experience. Travel and client-facing work are common aspects of this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in electrical engineering.
• 5+ years of post-education experience in electrical engineering, power systems protection and control.
• EIT Certification is required or in progress.
• IEC 61850/GOOSE experience required.
• Experience in consulting firms preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection design for capital projects and define relay protection functionality per client standards.
• Review contractor relay settings, logic diagrams, and HMI/SCADA inputs.
• Coordinate area protection and determine protection needs.
• Provide design support during implementation, testing, and commissioning.
• Refine design practices and ensure proper as-built documentation.
• Lead automation and integration design for capital projects and review SCADA/HMI components.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and field leadership for project tasks.
