Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company seeks a Senior Substation Project Engineer for a 1-year contract in Juno Beach, FL. You will lead a team, apply diverse engineering principles, and oversee renewable generation substation projects from conception to commissioning.

Preferred candidates hold PE and Six Sigma Yellow Belt, with 6+ years in HV substation design. Travel across Florida and North America is required; driver’s license is needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural engineering is required.
• 6+ years’ experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage projects preferred.
• Project Engineering/PM experience with bias for action; PMP and/or PE would be a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide training and technical oversight of external engineers of record to ensure compliance with standards.

We are searching for a Senior Substation Project Engineer on behalf of our client. This is a 1-year contract assignment. (W-2) You will be joining the Engineering & Construction Business Unit in Juno Beach Office, FL. 33408. You will lead a team of engineers and technical specialists that perform engineering functions. You will be responsible for applying diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields.

You will evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional renewable generation substation projects. You will also provide directions on projects to the department or project team members.

Travel between worksites and other locations is an essential job function and expectation of the position. You must hold a valid driver's license. Selected candidates will be expected to spend a portion of their time attending meetings at other worksites or in the field. Those selected for a Substation project engineering position will occasionally be required to drive to various renewable generation substations projects across Florida.

Location: Juno Beach, FL 33408 and Some travel required within North America.

1-year contract assignment. (W-2)

Job Duties & Responsibilities include:

• All assigned renewable generation substation projects from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution).
• In the conceptual phase, you will work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support the engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group. Projects can begin as FERC 1000 competitive transmission project proposals, or as greenfield projects.
• Training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) for all assigned substation projects to ensure compliance with required generation interconnection agreements, scope of work documents, project specifications, site specific design requirements, IEEE, NESC, ASCE and all other applicable industry codes and standards.
• Coordination with other groups to ensure that the assigned E&C renewable generation substation projects are successful.
• Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies and Interconnection agreements and ensures that Transmission Owner requirements and E&C engineering design are consistent and in compliance with all ISO requirements and incorporated into the project design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
• Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certified
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural engineering
• 6+ years’ experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is highly preferred.
• Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience with a strong bias for action.
• PMP and/or P.E. in related discipline is a plus.
