Job summary

b19 Consulting is seeking a Senior Substation Physical Engineer with a utility background to lead design and mentoring efforts on complex substation projects. The role offers remote work with senior leadership responsibilities and potential to move into management.

Responsibilities include leading substation layouts, BOMs, and design calculations; coordinating with project engineers, designers, and clients; and guiding junior engineers while ensuring high HV system standards.

Qualifications

• 4+ years utility substation design experience (15kV–500kV).
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on HV and power distribution.
• Strong communication to coordinate with project engineers, designers and clients.
• Mentorship, leadership or management experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (2016+).
• Proficiency with MicroStation (V8+).
• Proficiency with CDEGS & grounding calculations.
• Experience leading junior engineers and large design projects.

Responsibilities

• Detailed design of substation layouts with schematics, BOMs, and equipment specs.
• Lead a large portion or entire substation design project.
• Prepare design calculations: bus sizing, DC loading, lighting, cable sizing.
• Mentor and lead junior engineers and coordinate with stakeholders.

b19 Consulting is working with an established but expanding power delivery firm, to find a Senior Substation Physical Engineer working coming from an electrical utility background. This is also a great opportunity for a senior engineer looking to make the step up into management.

The successful senior substation physical engineer will have:

• 4+ years utility substation design experience (15kV through to 500kV)
• Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on high voltage and power distribution systems.
• Strong communication skills to co-ordinate with project engineers, designers and client representatives.
• Prior mentorship, leadership or management experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (2016 or newer) software
• Proficiency with MicroStation (V8 or newer).
• Proficiency with CDEGS & grounding calculations.
• Experience leading & mentoring junior engineers
• Detailed design of new substation layouts using electrical schematics, bill of materials and equipment specifications.
• Experience preparing substation design calculations such as bus sizing, power loading, DC loading, lighting and cable sizing.
• Ability to lead a large portion or the entirety of a substation design project.
