JD Ross has recently partnered with a full-service EPC firm servicing the Electrical Utility, Power Generation, and industrial markets. Right now, we’re looking to hire several Physical Substation Design Engineers based out of 3 key areas for them: East Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Your Role & Responsibilities as a Physical Substation Design Engineer:

1. Develop physical design packages for high-voltage substations (15kV - 500kV)
2. Prepare equipment layouts, grounding, lightning protection, conduit/cable plans, foundation designs, and more.
3. Work closely with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution
4. Perform design reviews, calculations, and material specifications
5. Support field teams with installation and construction activities
6. Ensure designs meet industry standards (NESC, IEEE, NEC, and client-specific requirements)

What We’re Looking For:

1. 3+ years of experience in physical substation design
2. Bachelor’s degree in a related Engineering field (or equivalent experience)
3. Strong understanding of substation equipment, layout, grounding, and protection schemes
4. Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools
5. Familiarity with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC)
6. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
