JD Ross has recently partnered with a full-service EPC firm servicing the Electrical Utility, Power Generation, and industrial markets. Right now, we’re looking to hire several Physical Substation Design Engineers based out of 3 key areas for them: East Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Your Role & Responsibilities as a Physical Substation Design Engineer:
- Develop physical design packages for high-voltage substations (15kV - 500kV)
- Prepare equipment layouts, grounding, lightning protection, conduit/cable plans, foundation designs, and more.
- Work closely with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution
- Perform design reviews, calculations, and material specifications
- Support field teams with installation and construction activities
- Ensure designs meet industry standards (NESC, IEEE, NEC, and client-specific requirements)
What We’re Looking For:
- 3+ years of experience in physical substation design
- Bachelor’s degree in a related Engineering field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong understanding of substation equipment, layout, grounding, and protection schemes
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools
- Familiarity with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
