Job summary

TRC, a global environmental and engineering firm and a member of WSP, is seeking a Substation Engineering Lead to oversee electrical protection, control, and layout deliverables for projects across the United States.

The role emphasizes design execution, cost estimation, coordination with multiple disciplines, and client-facing communications. A PE is preferred; strong grounding and protection knowledge is required, with opportunities to contribute to business development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum 5 years related experience (master's degree may substitute for one year).
• Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the US.
• Create electrical protection & control and/or physical layout design deliverables.
• Develop conceptual designs and execution plans.
• Prepare engineering/project cost estimates and schedules.
• Design physical substation layouts, grounding, and protection, including detailed drawings.
• Develop protection and control designs including panel and wiring schematics.
• Perform studies and report calculations (grounding, lighting protection, load studies).
• Specify equipment for procurement and testing.
• Coordinate design activities with Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission teams.
• Develop and improve processes, tools and technology implementations.
• Meet with clients and outside personnel; perform quality reviews.
• Provide short-term field support during construction.
• Support business development and marketing initiatives.
