Job summary

ISG in Brookfield, WI seeks a Senior Physical Substation Engineer, PE, to lead high-voltage substation layouts, bus work, grounding, and equipment placement. You will mentor junior staff, review deliverables, and act as the primary client contact for technical issues on projects for FirstEnergy and other clients.

You will ensure designs meet IEEE/ANSI/NEC/NESC/NFPA standards, coordinate with civil/structural and P&C teams, and drive safety and constructability improvements while maintaining

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (focus in power systems)
• PE license is required
• 5+ years in substation physical design on medium to large projects
• Proficient CAD operations and digital markup of drawings
• Experience with grounding analysis software (WinIGS, CYME, CDEGS)
• Experience with photometric analysis software (Visual Lighting, AGi32, DIALux, Revit)
• Experience with lighting analysis software (WinIGS, CDEGS, PSCAD)
• Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) and Inventor a plus
• Strong knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, NFPA; ability to interface with clients
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for site visits and reviews

Responsibilities

• Develops and reviews physical design packages for high-voltage substations, including layouts, GA drawings, grounding, and conduit plans
• Ensures compliance with utility, client, and regulatory standards
• Optimizes substation layouts for safety, reliability, constructability, and cost
• Oversees integration of civil/structural and protection & control requirements
• Performs grounding, voltage drop, conduit fill, and related calculations
• Reviews and approves design packages, drawings, reports, and construction notes
• Leads design coordination meetings with clients, utilities, vendors, and teams
• Mentors junior engineers and designers with constructive feedback
• Forecasts design hours and tracks project milestones
• Recommends improvements in design processes, tools, and templates
• Stays current with emerging technologies and industry standards
