Job summary

ISG is a multidisciplinary, employee-owned firm delivering architecture, engineering, environmental, and planning services. The Senior Physical Substation Engineer will lead high-voltage substation physical packages, mentor staff, and serve as a primary client contact on projects including FirstEnergy work.

The role emphasizes safety, reliability, constructability, and cost efficiency while coordinating with civil/structural and P&C teams to integrate complex requirements and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• PE license required.
• 5+ years in substation physical design.
• Proficient with CAD and design software.
• Strong client interface and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review complete physical design packages for high-voltage substations, including diagrams, GA drawings, bus layouts, grounding, and routing plans.
• Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, NFPA standards and client requirements.
• Lead design coordination meetings with clients, utilities, vendors, and internal teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing feedback and direction.
• Forecast design hours and manage deliverables to support schedules and budgets.
• Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality of designs.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry standards affecting substation design.
