Job summary

ISG seeks a Senior Physical Substation Engineer (PE) in Bloomington, MN to lead high-voltage substation physical design, including GA drawings, bus work, grounding, conduit and equipment layouts. You will mentor junior staff and serve as a primary client contact, delivering designs that meet safety, reliability and constructability goals.

The role involves coordinating with FirstEnergy projects and ensuring compliance with utility and regulatory standards, with opportunities to influence design

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of experience in substation physical design.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, NFPA, OSHA.
• Strong written and verbal communication with clients.
• Willingness to travel and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Develops and reviews complete physical design packages for high-voltage substations.
• Ensures compliance with utility, client, and regulatory standards.
• Applies advanced engineering judgment to optimize layouts.
• Oversees integration of civil/structural and P&C requirements.
• Performs grounding, voltage drop, conduit fill and other calculations.
• Reviews and approves drawings, reports and notes.
• Leads design coordination meetings with clients, utilities and vendors.
• Mentors junior engineers and reviews their work.
