Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in US-CA (Brea area) seeks a Senior Substation Engineer to lead high-voltage substation design from concept through construction. You’ll coordinate design packages, electrical studies, and field inspections while aligning with budget, standards, and client needs.

Ideal candidates hold an ABET-accredited engineering degree with 7 years of substation experience; PE preferred, strong communication, and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

• ABET degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering with 7 years of substation experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong analytical/problem-solving ability.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and collaboration in a team environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation projects from concept to completion.
• Develop substation design packages, calculations, BOMs and specifications.
• Apply IEEE, NESC standards and QA/QC guidelines.
• Lead field inspections and client communications.
• Manage project schedule and budget; prepare proposals with scope and cost.
