Placements24 is seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to design, construct, and maintain substations within the Welkom region. The role emphasizes high-voltage equipment, protection schemes, and grid codes to support reliable operation of the regional power grid. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least six years in substation design/engineering or project management, with Pr.

Eng. registration being highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 6+ years of progressive experience in substation design, engineering or project management.
• Pr.Eng. registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of HV equipment and grid codes.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer new substations and refurbishments, including single-line diagrams, protection schemes, and equipment specifications.
• Oversee the construction and commissioning of substation projects, in Welkom, ensuring adherence to design, safety, and quality standards.
• Develop and implement protection relay settings and coordination studies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
