Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Substation Designer to develop construction drawings for substation projects and to supervise and mentor junior designers. The role involves creating 2-D and 3-D drawings, layouts, and schematics using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and MicroStation, with project coordination across departments.

Qualifications

• Experience in substation design including layout, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
• Ability to design single-line diagrams and substation engineering.
• Six+ years designing layouts, equipment layouts, BOMs, and related views.
• Six years of design experience using AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Develop a substation design layout with scoping info from a Design Engineer.
• Independently create 2-D drawings and 3-D models of substation features using MicroStation.
• Develop layouts of parts and assemblies in 2-D and 3-D.
• Modify and update existing models to reflect design changes.
• Create/modify drawings: single-line diagrams, station location plans, cable and conduit plans, grounding and duct bank designs.
• Use ProjectWise to track design modifications.
• Coordinate with other departments and supervise less experienced designers.
• Check and validate drawings for the project and peers.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Substation Design.
• Function as project lead on small, less complicated projects with minimal guidance.
• Work under the supervision of engineers.
