Job summary

UtilliCo seeks a Substation Physical Designer/Engineer to support substation projects across multiple locations or remote. The role covers design drafting, BOM preparation, and coordination with engineering teams to meet client specifications.

You will work with AutoCAD and MicroStation to produce plans, sections and elevations, and ensure compliance with safety and industry standards. Travel to field sites may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required
• Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design or Certification required
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in utility substation design
• 6+ years of experience with electric utilities or utility consulting preferred
• Understanding of substation design from 500kV to 4kV
• Working knowledge of NESC requirements
• Familiar with BIM processes and CAD tools
• Ability to read and interpret engineering documents
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel

Responsibilities

• Assist with data collection and analysis from sites, surveys, blueprints and drawings
• Review drawing accuracy, dimensions, quantities, and change orders
• Collaborate with structural, electrical and civil teams on substation projects
• Ensure plans meet city, state, federal codes and client standards
• Prepare phases of substation designs and construction drawings
• Develop BOMs, estimates and supporting docs
• Coordinate with engineering, utility personnel and field crews
• Submit packages for review and revision, conduct QA/QC
• Conduct field visits to collect measurements and data
