Job summary

HDR seeks a Senior Substation Technical Specialist in Irvine, CA, to lead design efforts for electrical substations (Low, Medium and High Voltage) under licensed engineer supervision.

You will produce one-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring plans and SCADA layouts, while coordinating with CAD drafters and other disciplines to meet safety codes and project specs. A strong background in power engineering is required.

Qualifications

• Strong Verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary environments.
• Aptitude with computer applications and engineering tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed engineer.
• Design tasks involving judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying engineering techniques and procedures.
• Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and designs for electrical substations (Low/Medium/High Voltage).
• Prepare calculations, design sketches and redline drawings.
• Coordinate with Electrical CAD Drafters and Designers to develop drawings per standards and project specs.
• Develop design deliverables including diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, layouts and grounding.
• Review work and coordinate design with other engineering disciplines.
• Make decisions on significant design and engineering features.
