Job summary

Ampirical is seeking an Experienced Substation Physical Engineer to join our Duluth, GA team. You will deliver accurate high‑voltage substation designs, including general arrangement, equipment layout, grounding, and BOM preparation, while coordinating with project teams.

This role requires 3+ years for Engineer III or 5+ years for Engineer IV, FE with relevant experience, and strong communication. PE preferred for Engineer IV; relocations considered for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• FE required for Engineer III and IV (or +2 years experience in lieu of FE).
• PE preferred for Engineer IV.
• 3+ years of substation physical design experience for Engineer III.
• 5+ years of substation design and project leadership for Engineer IV.
• Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, IEEE 80/998.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Inventor; 2D/3D modeling is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver designs of high‑voltage substation components meeting standards.
• Design substation layouts, grounding, conduit, and BOMs.
• Prepare construction drawing packages for bids and submittals.
• Review quality of electrical engineering work by peers and contractors.
• May serve as Lead Engineer and Engineer of Record.
• Develop proposals, bids, and project schedules as needed.
• Assist on-site during construction with substation issues.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
• Travel to client sites and field locations as required.
