Job summary

WSP is seeking an Experienced Substation Physical Engineer for our Duluth, GA office. You will work on utility-scale substations with a focus on physical design, layouts, grounding, and protection systems.

The role requires 3–5 years of related experience, a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, and strong communication skills in English. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver design documents and ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 3–5 years of post‑education experience in an electrical engineering role performing substation physical design.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Experience supporting substation physical design deliverables such as general arrangements, layouts, grounding systems, lightning protection, and equipment installation details.
• Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, regulations, and utility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance for design and construction of utility-scale substations, with emphasis on physical design.
• Review substation drawings, vendor submittals, and project plans.
• Develop single-line and three-line diagrams, layouts, grounding grids, and protection systems.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and other disciplines to ensure constructability and safety.
• Prepare calculations, reports, sketches, and design exhibits for project reviews.
• Maintain quality control to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
