Job summary

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) invites applications for the Senior Student Affairs Manager (SAO) in the Student Affairs Office. The role is full-time and non-academic, centred on strategic leadership of whole-person development and student well-being.

Applicants should hold a recognised degree (higher degree preferred) with substantial experience in tertiary education and student services. Proficiency in English and Putonghua is required, with strong leadership and project-management

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and people-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team within the Student Affairs Office and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Provide strategic leadership for whole-person development and mental health campaigns.
  • Oversee governance and development of student societies, advising leaders and ensuring compliance.
  • Build partnerships across the University and with external stakeholders.
  • Drive evidence-informed innovation and continuous improvement in student services.
  • Plan and deliver initiatives with project management, resources and risk management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Affairs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Leading and developing a small team within the Student Affairs Office, fostering a collaborative, accountable and supportive work environment;
  • Providing strategic leadership for the review, enhancement, implementation and evaluation of the whole-person development scheme and mental health campaign to strengthen their reach, effectiveness and responsiveness to students’ evolving needs;
  • Overseeing the governance, development and effective management of student societies, including advising and developing student leaders, promoting responsible and inclusive participation, and ensuring compliance with relevant University policies and procedures;
  • Building effective partnerships across the University and with external stakeholders to advance student-focused initiatives;
  • Driving evidence-informed innovation and continuous improvement across student affairs programmes and practices, with clear objectives and measurable outcomes;
  • Ensuring the effective planning and delivery of initiatives through sound project management, resource coordination, risk management and stakeholder communication; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Affairs or his/her nominee(s).
Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • A recognised degree, preferably a higher degree, together with substantial administrative experience in tertiary education;
  • Substantial experience in student affairs or a related field, with a proven track record of leading the development, enhancement, implementation and evaluation of student-focused programmes;
  • A genuine commitment to whole-person development, student well-being and mental health promotion, with the ability to empower student leaders and foster an inclusive and vibrant student community;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and people-management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team;
  • Strong project management, stakeholder engagement and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and oversee the effective governance and development of student societies;
  • Strategic thinking, sound judgement and a clear vision for enhancing the student experience, together with the flexibility to respond to evolving needs; and
  • Proficiency in English and Chinese (including Putonghua) is required.

Candidates may be invited to attend a written test.

An attractive remuneration package, including basic salary, a composite cash/housing allowance, an end-of-contract gratuity, and a discretionary incentive payment, where applicable, will be offered to the right candidates.
