Job summary

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) seeks an Assistant Public Affairs Manager in the Public Affairs Office to lead internal and external communications, media relations, and publicity coordination across campus.

The role reports to the Director of Public Affairs, involves media events, website management, and handling enquiries while supporting strategic goals and brand image in a vibrant university environment in Hong Kong.

Qualifications

  • A recognised degree with at least 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; Putonghua is an added advantage.
  • Strong media sense and understanding of the media landscape and daily operations.
  • Proficiency in social media and web technologies is an advantage.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated with analytical mind and a can-do spirit.
  • A good team player with interpersonal and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop internal and external communications materials including press releases, campus stories and speeches.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media and stakeholders to enhance publicity.
  • Act as primary media contact and coordinate media activities and enquiries.
  • Monitor media coverage and assess public perception.
  • Manage, update and maintain the University website to enhance image.
  • Plan and manage media events and support official University events for publicity.
  • Handle general enquiries/complaints and liaise with internal/external parties.

++Major Duties and Responsibilities++

The Public Affairs Office (PAO) is seeking a proactive and self-motivated candidate to join our Public Relations (PR) team. Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs or his/her nominee(s). The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Developing internal and external communications materials, including press releases, campus stories, research stories, student achievement stories, social media posts, speeches, column articles, advertorials and presentations for management team, ensuring content accuracy and aligning with the University’s mission, vision and strategic goals;

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with the media and stakeholders to enhance the University’s publicity;

  • Acting as the primary media contact, handling and coordinating media activities and operations, including enquiries, interviews, photo/video shooting, media pitch and media contact list maintenance;

  • Media monitoring and tracking media coverage to assess the University’s public perception and identify opportunities for improvement;

  • Managing, updating and maintaining the University’s website to enhance the University image;

  • Planning and managing media events, and supporting University-level University, and key events organised by schools/departments/other offices to maximize publicity for the University, including media marshaling and logistics coordination;

  • Handling general enquiries/complaints and liaising with internal and external parties; and

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Affairs or his/her nominee.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • A recognised degree with at least 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience;

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (proficiency in Putonghua is an added advantage);

  • Strong media sense with understanding of the media landscape and daily operations;

  • Proficiency in social media and web technologies is a definite advantage;

  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated with analytical mind, a strong sense of responsibility and a can-do spirit;

  • A good team player with good interpersonal and organisational skills;

  • Well-organised with strong multi-tasking and time management skills;

  • Ability to multitask, independently manage projects, and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines; and

  • Flexible and willing to work outside office hours when required.
