Senior Structural Project Manager
Job Overview
GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, seeks a Senior Structural Project Manager to oversee and manage projects from conceptual design through construction completion. The role involves coordinating, supervising, and delivering safe, cost‑efficient structural designs that meet or exceed company standards and expectations.
Responsibilities
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Mentor and manage Structural Designers I, Structural Designers II, Structural Design Engineers, Structural Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Managers.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations throughout the design lifecycle.
- Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met.
- Develop comprehensive plans defining objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines, collaborating with design and construction teams.
- Manage construction administration tasks, including reviewing shop drawings, submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits.
- Oversee the development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials.
- Perform and review calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes.
- Utilize CAD software (e.g., Tekla Structures) and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Manage team members—engineers, modelers, and detailers—to meet project deadlines and deliver high‑quality solutions within budget.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders such as architects, contractors, and MEP designers.
- Lead and manage project design meetings, setting agendas, taking notes, and providing minutes.
- Stay current with industry trends, code updates, and structural design technologies through professional development activities.
- Identify process improvements, cost optimization opportunities, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor project costs, track expenses, manage the budget (including monthly status reports), invoice, pursue payment, and manage change orders.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Required Skills and Abilities
- In‑depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
- Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques.
- Ability to act as a subject‑matter expert (SME) within the company.
- Strong problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective stakeholder collaboration.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in design plans and documentation.
- Team‑player attitude with conflict resolution, negotiation, and active listening abilities.
- Adaptability to make informed decisions and adjust project plans for unexpected challenges.
- Proficiency in CAD software and other structural engineering tools.
- Advanced project‑management experience, including planning, organizing, and executing projects from start to finish.
- Sound knowledge of financial and budget management principles.
Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
- Twelve years of experience in building structural engineering.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work from a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to travel to project locations nationwide.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds when necessary.
Compensation
Anticipated starting pay range: $148,000.00 – $232,000.00.
