Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dynamic Structural Engineer in the Eastern Cape to design and oversee structural systems for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. This site-based role emphasizes collaboration with architects and contractors to ensure safe, efficient building designs.

The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 5 years of structural design experience, proficiency in Prokon/ETABS/SAP2000/AutoCAD, and a strong understanding of materials and methods.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering with a strong focus on Structural Engineering.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design for buildings.
• PrEng or PrTechEng registration with ECSA preferred.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (Prokon, ETABS, SAP2000, AutoCAD).
• Solid understanding of building materials, construction methods, and structural principles.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and client interaction.
• Ability to work independently and manage project workloads efficiently.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the Eastern Cape for site inspections.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze structural systems for new building projects and refurbishments.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, calculations, and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design specifications.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, and other consultants to achieve optimal building designs.
• Perform structural assessments of existing buildings and provide recommendations for repairs or upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with the National Building Regulations (NBR) and relevant South African Standards (SANS).
• Manage project timelines and deliverables related to structural design.
• Provide technical advice and solutions to construction teams on-site.
• Contribute to tender preparations and proposals for new projects.
