Job summary

HII Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking an experienced structural engineer to analyze and develop specifications for naval structures and components. The role focuses on dynamic analyses, damage tolerance, and integration with design, test, and production teams.

You will work with CATIA/IDEAS-style workflows and collaborate with NAVSEA and industry partners to deliver safe, reliable warship structures. On-site role with relocation assistance and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
• Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• DOD Security Clearance is preferred, but not required to start.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, research structural engineering specifications for metals, non-metallic, or composite materials for design/operation of product.
• Understand damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.
• Prepare technical submittals, drawing reviews, and test/maintenance procedures.
• Perform dynamic structural (shock) analyses using FEA tools (FEMAP/NASTRAN, Abaqus, Hypermesh).
• Coordinate with design, test, construction teams and external customers (NAVSEA, suppliers).
• Support shock and vibration qualification and foundation design analyses.
