Job summary

DES seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead design and analysis from concept through construction administration in Redwood City. You will own the structural scope, drive calculations, documentation, and coordination across disciplines, while mentoring junior staff and ensuring code compliance.

The role requires a California structural engineer license with 10+ years of relevant experience, strong collaboration skills, and experience with seismic design.

Qualifications

• California Structural Engineer license with 10+ years of increasing responsibility
• Experience producing structural designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for varied building types
• Thorough knowledge of structural fundamentals and seismic design
• Experience across design through construction phases
• Strong communication and collaboration with architects, owners, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
• Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical feedback
• OSHPD/DSA experience is a plus
• Proficiency in CAD and Revit-based workflows
• Ability to review work and ensure quality and constructability
• Established industry relationships and client-facing skills

Responsibilities

• Lead design and analysis from concept to construction administration
• Develop efficient, constructible structural solutions
• Own scope, design approach, calculations, documentation, schedules and budgets
• Provide technical leadership and工程 judgement
• Prepare and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and documents
• Coordinate structural systems with architects and engineers
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination efforts
• Review project documents for quality and compliance
• Support QA/QC processes for structural projects
• Communicate concepts and recommendations to clients and teams
• Participate in client meetings, site visits, and construction activity
• Work with PMs to meet schedules and budgets
• Assist with proposals, fee estimates, and scopes of work
• Support business development and client interviews
• Build professional relationships with stakeholders
• Mentor engineers and contribute to team growth
• Stay current with codes and seismic design practices
• Engage in professional/marketing organizations
