Job description

A well-regarded and growing engineering firm is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join its team in San Diego. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging, meaningful projects within a collaborative and supportive environment that invests in its people and their long-term growth.

The Senior Structural Engineer will play a key role in project delivery; leading technical design efforts, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a trusted resource for project teams and clients alike.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead structural analysis and design across a variety of project types, from concept through construction documentation.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, and specifications in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Apply working knowledge of California Building Code (CBC) and relevant local jurisdictional requirements throughout all phases of design.
  • Incorporate seismic design principles and lateral force‑resisting systems into project work, ensuring compliance with ASCE 7 and CBC seismic provisions.
  • Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure cohesive and constructible design solutions.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior and mid‑level engineering staff.
  • Support business development efforts and client relationships as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering (with structural emphasis) required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; SE license a plus
  • 5‑10 years of progressive structural engineering experience in a consulting or design firm environment
  • Strong proficiency in structural analysis and design for buildings, including gravity and lateral systems
  • Experience with seismic design and performance‑based engineering strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of California Building Code (CBC) and ASCE 7
  • Proficiency in industry‑standard structural analysis and design software (ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, RAM, or similar)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM coordination workflows preferredStrong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively interface with clients and multidisciplinary project teams
