Job summary

142 Design Group is looking for a passionate Senior Structural Engineer to join our New York team. This role involves project performance and profit management from day one, with responsibilities such as preparing preliminary designs, reviewing building codes, and communicating with clients.

The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of experience in commercial construction, a BS or MS in Civil/Structural Engineering, and a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Our company offers a range of benefits including a performance-based bonus program and comprehensive health insurance.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Communicate with technical drafting staff, clients, and others outside the project team.
• Prepare preliminary designs for clients.
• Review building codes to assure proper implementation in design.
• Attend client meetings, coordinate with construction project managers and engineers.
• Produce construction-ready design drawings coordinated with all disciplines.
• Manage construction administration tasks such as shop drawing review.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

• Communicate with technical drafting staff, clients, and others outside the project team
• Prepare preliminary designs for clients
• Review building codes to assure proper implementation in design
• Attend client meetings, coordinate with construction project managers, architect, civil, and mechanical engineers
• Produce structural calculations for implementation with technical drafting staff during preparation of construction documents as well as construction
• Produce construction ready design drawings coordinated with all disciplines to assure completeness and accuracy
• Manage construction administration tasks such as shop drawing review, RFI responses, and coordination with the construction teams
• Operate with a high degree of autonomy managing projects

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

• BS or MS in Civil/Structural Engineering
• 8+ years of structural engineering building design experience, ideally in commercial construction
• Ability to prepare structural designs for steel, concrete, masonry, light gauge steel, and understanding of foundation design
• Proficiency using Revit independently to create construction level structural drawings is preferred
• Knowledge of analysis and design programs such as RAM Structural System, SAP2000, RISA, or another recognized 3D design package preferred
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is required
