Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a leader for our new Knoxville, Tennessee office to grow and manage Stantec’s services in the Knoxville area and provide technical, structural engineering leadership throughout our US South Water Region. This role will work closely with the Delivery Center Leadership Team and will also carry roles related to project and marketing leadership in the Knoxville area. The right candidate will have extensive experience with a variety of Water/Civil projects.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a team with the full capabilities of a worldwide engineering firm that can provide anything a client in our region would request. The role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to expand their engineering knowledge, grow into different roles within the structural discipline and/or marketing and project leadership, and get involved with teams around the country working on iconic projects that directly influence the communities we live in.

Your Key Responsibilities

1. Execution and management of complex civil engineering designs
2. Technical design expertise for projects as well as supervision and management of work through junior staff to develop and execute the design
3. Planning and managing projects to ensure deliveries are on time and within budget
4. Monitor staff utilization to ensure team members are working to capacity and meeting targets
5. Work with staff to ensure nonchargeable time is valuable
6. Leading or participating in the recruitment and hiring of new staff including identifying candidates, reviewing resumes, and participating in interviews - Attracting, growing, and retaining quality staff
7. Working with Technical Leads throughout the year to evaluate the performance of training plans and implementation of standard operating procedures
8. Ensure team members are adhering to quality standards, protocols, and all HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, Environment) and Quality requirements within Stantec
9. Client service, development, relationship management, and growth of existing business
10. Opportunity identification and new business pursuits and project development
11. Mentoring, empowering, and coaching other team members
12. Support and act as a lead for internal and external systems, projects, and safety audits
13. Provide feedback on work performance
14. Oversee project management development
15. Identify training needs for team members and cross-training with other disciplines
16. Encourage professional involvement as well as personally participate in the communities we serve and the organizations we support

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Demonstrated ability and desire to work with, and contribute to, a larger team (previous leadership or people management experience, including project-related work, is highly desirable)
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Strong problem-solving, organization, collaboration, and coordination skills

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or relevant program, Masters preferred

Minimum 10 years of experience leading civil engineering projects and leading engineering design teams
