Responsibilities
- The Lead Structural Engineer is responsible for the complete structural scope of a project from conceptual design to detailed engineering, producing structural documents and specifications for procurement. Experience in cooling towers and/or air cooled condensers (ACC) is a plus.
- Prepares engineering design and develops economical workable designs using client specifications, reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, soil tests, terrain, hydrological data, and geological information.
- Maintains an organized calculation index and presents clear, industry-standard calculations understandable to team members.
- Performs manual calculations and uses industry-standard tools like STAAD, FEA, etc.
- Back checks work by designers, drafters, fabricators, and engineers.
- Manages subcontracted engineering efforts including structural design, duct support design, pipe stress analysis, and 3D modeling.
- Ensures structural design clarity through drafting and participates in developing new products and innovative structural designs to meet customer needs.
- Collaborates with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls disciplines to verify structural adequacy.
- Interfaces with clients, suppliers, utility companies, construction personnel, engineering firms, subcontractors, and vendors. Infrequent travel for field inspections and support for sales and proposals is expected.
Position Requirements
- BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering, 10+ years' experience, P.E. license preferred. Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of American Standard codes, AISC, ASCE, AWS, FEA, STAAD, with preferred knowledge of ASME and Caesar Pipe Stress Analysis.
- Ability to assume full project responsibility, ensure customer compliance, and develop standards that balance technical performance with economic competitiveness.
- Knowledge of fabrication, welding, ASME and AWS codes, and non-destructive testing/inspection is advantageous.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
