At BFS, the Senior Structural Designer independently coordinates the design and completion of layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing. This role involves performing simple and complex analyses to meet technical requirements and achieve customer goals. The senior team member regularly interacts with and provides expert recommendations to customers and serves as the company’s representative in the design, purchase, and construction of residential roof and floor systems. This position requires proactive analysis, deduction skills, and exercise of discretion and independent judgment.

What You'll Do:

1. Serve as the company’s representative to customers and third parties in the design, purchase, and construction of residential roof and floor systems.
2. Independently perform analyses and design layouts for residential roof and floor systems.
3. Interact daily with customers to evaluate needs, review layouts, analyze information, and provide advice and recommendations.
4. Develop and complete design details from customer concept drawings.
5. Select design materials, produce material lists, and perform structural alterations as needed or requested.
6. Oversee construction design documents, management, and contracts, determining special notes for contracts.
7. Present, coordinate, sell, and follow-up on new jobs.
8. Discuss changes and corrections with engineers, architects, and contractors during construction.
9. Ensure compliance with building requirements and codes.
10. Develop solutions within budget and schedule constraints.
11. Design roof and floor systems and review layouts with customers.
12. Perform site inspections as needed.
13. Resolve architectural and design discrepancies proactively.
14. Develop and recommend policies, practices, and procedures.
15. Assist in training new associates.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree or applicable work experience.
2. 4+ years of drafting experience in construction or building materials industry.

Work Environment / Physical Activity:

2. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
