Job summary

Volant Partners in Seattle is seeking a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer to lead design verification for aerospace hardware. You will perform external/internal load definitions, structural sizing, MGA analysis, and develop/validate finite element models (MSC/NX Nastran) while applying fatigue and damage tolerance concepts.

Collaboration with design, test and manufacturing teams is essential across lifecycle milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or related engineering discipline.
• 3-8 years of structural/stress analysis experience.
• Strong foundation in strength of materials and structural mechanics.
• FEA experience with MSC/NX Nastran and pre/post processors.
• Experience with metallic/composite structures; reference standards (MMPDS/CMH-17).
• Proficiency with MS Office; Excel-based tools and presentations.
• Ability to read engineering drawings (GD&T).
• Fluent English (written and spoken).
• US Person: citizen, permanent resident, or eligible refugee/asylum status.

Responsibilities

• Perform trade studies on structural configurations and joints.
• Define external/internal loads and load paths; document results.
• Size primary/secondary structure for strength and stiffness; MGA analyses.
• Develop/verify finite element models (e.g., Nastran) and validate properties.
• Perform hand calculations to verify FEM results.
• Perform fatigue and damage tolerance assessments.
• Author stress reports and margins of safety per client standards.
• Support test scope, manufacturing methods and development.
• Present findings at reviews and provide status updates.
