Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Plano, TX is seeking a Sr. Associate, Structural Engineer (Stress Engineer) to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering team on-site. The role emphasizes leadership of a small team, classical and finite element analysis of aircraft structures, and ensuring airworthiness compliance.

Candidates will develop free body diagrams, estimate bids, and manage labor forecasts. Travel is expected (5%), and eligibility for a Secret clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Performs classical hand analysis and creates finite element models to predict internal loads, displacements, and stresses for complex structures.
• Leads a small team, mentoring engineers and managing budgets and schedules for assigned tasks.
• Generates free body diagrams and calculates internal loads and stresses.
• Develops structural tests and post-processes results to establish allowable strength data.
• Documents structural analysis in formal reports showing compliance with airworthiness requirements.
• Reviews engineering design data with CAD/PLM tools and ensures FAA/military airworthiness readiness.

Responsibilities

• Perform classical hand analysis and finite element modeling to predict internal loads and stresses.

• Generate FBDs, calculate internal loads, and assess static strength of structures.
• Develop structural tests and post-process results for allowable strength data.

• Estimate labor hours for bids and manage labor forecasts for a team.
• Travel to flight lines and aircraft hangars as needed (5%).
