Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Strategic Sourcing Leader to guide the Professional Services sourcing team, translating business priorities into category strategies and clear delivery plans. You will oversee a broad portfolio, including high-volume SOWs and renewals, while remaining hands-on in select negotiations and critical decisions.

This hybrid role is based in San Francisco with relocation assistance for new hires.

Qualifications

• Over 10 years of progressive strategic sourcing, procurement or category management experience across Professional Services.
• 5+ years of people leadership with objectives, performance and delegation.
• Led complex services negotiations and coached others to deliver quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the team: set objectives, delegate with boundaries, provide feedback, review performance.
• Set portfolio strategy and roadmap, connect business objectives, demand, spend and risk to supplier markets.
• Manage pipeline and capacity across negotiations, governance and recurring SOWs; allocate work by capability and risk.
• Lead selected negotiations and set standards for commercial quality, shaping scope, pricing and deliverables.
• Build intake, partner models and playbooks; ensure efficient handovers for repeatable work.
• Strengthen supplier relationships through segmentation, reviews and improvement plans.
• Collaborate with Finance/Accounting on spend visibility, forecasts and contract alignment.
• Partner with Legal, People and Extended Workforce on service models and risk safeguards.
• Establish concise view of portfolio and team performance for informed decisions and value realization.
• Build trusted senior stakeholder relationships and guide demand and supplier choices.
• Lead adoption of improved sourcing workflows and AI tools with human review.
