Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking a skilled operator to join the Construction crew of the Stormwater division. The position primarily operates heavy equipment such as excavators, dump trucks, backhoes, loaders, and skid steers, with routine maintenance and minor repairs performed on the gear.

Responsibilities include assisting with CCTV inspections and pipe cleaning, field repairs, and coordination with other departmental staff.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Operates heav y equipment including excavator, backhoe, front-end loader, skid steer, dump truck.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Supports field tasks such as mowing, grading, seeding, and sodding.
• Conducts CCTV inspections and pipe cleaning operations as needed.
• Reports daily progress and coordinates with supervisors and other staff.

Education

High school diploma or GED

3-5 years related experience
