Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking a crew member for the Green Infrastructure team within the Stormwater division of the Department of Public Works. You will learn to operate heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, backhoes, and skid steers; assist in stormwater construction, mowing, mulching, and lawn care, and participate in snow removal and emergency tasks as needed.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and 1–3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1–3 years related experience or training.
• Possession of valid driver’s license; CDL-appropriate endorsements may be required within 12 months.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operating instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors, mowers, backhoe, front-end loader, skid steer, and other equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Assist with BMP landscaping, stormwater inspections, and green infrastructure tasks.
• Collect and report work site information; assist with snow removal and events as needed.
• Fabricate or install traffic control and signage per City guidelines when required.
• Adhere to safety protocols and wear respiratory protection if needed.
