Job summary

City of Roanoke seeks a GI team crew member on the Stormwater division to learn and operate heavy equipment for maintenance of flood lots, rights-of-way, and facilities. You will work under supervision to gain proficiency with gear like Ventrac and other mowers, participate in repairs and renovations, and assist in snow removal and emergency tasks as needed.

Required minimal education is a high school diploma or GED, plus 1–3 years in related trades.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; additional trades training preferred.
• 1-3 years related experience or training in trades.
• Valid Virginia driver's license may be required; Class A/B/C CDL with tanker endorsement within 12 months.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and work unsupervised when trained.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractors, mowers, backhoe, front-end loader, skid steer, and other equipment.
• Perform minor repairs and adjustments on equipment.
• Assist with BMPs, landscaping, stormwater inspections.
• Collect site information and report findings.
• Assist with snow removal, events, and emergencies as needed.
